Kindergarten to 4th Grade

Objective: To improve the performance of the participating students in their studies, bring them up to grade level in math, reading, and science, and to improve their performance in the state-mandated tests. Ultimately, the objective is to make school a more pleasant experience that will encourage them to stay in school, graduate, and go on to college.

Schedule: The After School Program is conducted in the Hancock Middle School from 2:30 PM until 5:30 PM on Monday through Friday.

Curriculum: The students are divided into teams and rotated through the prescribed activity periods. Immediately upon convening, the students are given a snack and drinks to revive them after a day of schooling. Conferences between the director and the students’ teachers identify areas in need of improvement. The students are rotated through tutoring sessions conducted by certified teachers and supervised by the director and professional staff. The focus is on homework and other work identified by the classroom teacher. The students are rotated through a computer training period, a supervised play period, and art or music enrichment.

Funding: In 2017, HCEF was awarded a Round 7 21st Century Learning Center Grant to operate the programs for 3 hours per day, 5 days a week. In 2022, we were awarded a Round 8A 21st Century Learning Grant until June 2027.
