Tomar Mountain Gun Club has established a new scholarship fund to be managed by the Hancock Community Education Foundation. The club will award a scholarship in the amount of $1000 each year for graduates of Hancock Central School, with a preference to a student who is majoring in the field of Environmental Education or Conservation. If there are no students who qualify with that criteria the scholarship will be awarded based on academic excellence.
Tomar Mountain Gun Club, Inc. was established in 1934. Located outside of Hancock, near Lordville, NY, the club grounds have grown to nearly 1700 acres at present. The twenty plus membership has a philosophy that consistently emphasizes environmental conservation, wildlife management, and the preservation of habitat for fish and game.
Club members enjoy fishing, hunting, and shooting sports. They have donated funds for youth involvement in summer outdoor camps and the Boy Scouts. The club also supports the Delaware County Federation of Sportsmen by donating youth items annually at the Delaware County Fair. The membership believes that further contributions to an annual HCEF scholarship fund would enhance education and develop youth interest in outdoor activities for years to come.
